By the nature of the physical processes occurring within the cooling towers, the towers are vulnerable to freezing in cold weather. Ice formations can cause functional and structural damage to the equipment inside the tower. Therefore, these facilities are usually provided with frost protection systems.
If the cooling tower is rehabilitated, there are established either measures to improve the old frost protection system or to replace it with a new one.
All the frost protection systems must ensure a water temperature over its freezing point in any room of the tower, even in difficult conditions of operation (frost periods, low thermal load, water flow below the nominal one, etc.).
